Audi complete practice clean-sweep at the Mountain

Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia has continued its run at the top to the timesheets in the final two practice sessions at the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour.

Foggy conditions welcomed competitors to the Mountain, however this cleared to allow Markus Winkelhock to set a 2m 03.133s as a new contender emerged in the Grove Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R with Ben Barker 0.520s off the pace.

SunEnergy1 Racing/Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Jules Gounon rounded out the top three in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 making it three different manufacturers at the top.

David Reynolds in the C-Tech Laser Audi was fourth from Shane van Gisbergen in the Mann Filter Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes-AMG GT3 as Fraser Ross in the Coinspot R8 LMS GT3 Evo II put in an impressive performance to be sixth.

Rounding out the 10 were Jack Perkins in the Daimler Trucks Brisbane Mercedes, the second Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia entry of Nathanael Berthon, Duvashen Padayachee driving the Valmont Racing Mercedes and the first MARC II driven by Declan Fraser.

Incidents for Hadrian Morall in the second MARC II entry and Mark Rosser’s Team BRM Audi resulted in two red flags during the session, with the latter failing to return for Practice 6.

Berthon improved in the final session before qualifying to set a 2m 03.257s to lead Coinspot’s Chaz Mostert by 0.230s as SunEnergy1 Racing/Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Luca Stolz replicated teammate Gounon’s effort in third.

Cameron Waters retained fourth for the C-Tech Laser team as Kelvin van der Linde took fifth in the second Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia R8 LMS GT3 Evo II ahead of van Gisbergen in the Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes.

Rounding out the top 10 were Tony D’Alberto in the Wall Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3, The Grove Racing Porsche of Brenton Grove, Hallmarc Racing’s Lee Holdsworth and the RAM Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Garth Walden.

Qualifying for this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour occurs at 1:20pm AEST in two 25-minute parts before the Top 10 Shootout at 4:10pm AEST live on 7Mate and Kayo.
