Bowe tests rivals’ TCM Mustangs

JOHN BOWE’S preparations ahead of his search of a record sixth Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters title have continued behind the wheel – of his rivals cars.

The Holden Torana driver jumped behind the wheel of a pair of Ford Mustang TCM entries at Winton earlier this week in a bid to help rivals Tony Karanfilovski and Cameron Mason fine-tune their cars ahead of the Bathurst showdown.

The powerplants for Karanfilovski’s yellow Mustang and Mason’s Russell Hancock-owned car are both supplied by Synergy Race Engines – the same Steve Makarios-owned company that builds the engines for Bowe’s Torana.

Bowe won his first three TCM titles aboard his famous 1969 Mustang Trans Am, known as ‘Sally’, before switching to his current Holden Torana.

“Being a former Mustang racer and Mustang lover I’ve been helping out 2 of the Touring Car Masters cars to get their cars sorted better, along with Steve Makarios from Synergy Race Engines,” Bowe posted on his Facebook page.

“The green and silver one is raced by Cam Mason and owned by Russ Hancock from Newcastle and the yellow one is the property of Tony Karanfilovski, or Tony K as he is affectionately known!

“Synergy Race Engines do the race prep as well as the engines for both cars. They look after the engines in my 5 litre Torana A9X too.

“Great engines. Amazing how much grunt they have from the 351 Windsor engines in the Mustang!

“A day at the track sure beats any other day!! Both cars will be racing at Bathurst. See you there!”

Bowe leads Ryan Hansford by 10 points heading into the final four races of the championship, with practice and qualifying commencing this Tuesday.
