Racing legend key to Ben Bargwanna’s development

Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series rookie Ben Bargwanna has credited an Australian motor sport legend for his development during this season.

Bargwanna currently leads his Bathurst 1000 winning father and Burson Garry Rogers Motorsport Peugeot 308 TCR teammate Jason in the standings, paying tribute to engineer Greg Crick for contributing to his transition from Formula Ford to the two-litre turbo hatchback.

“My engineer Greg Crick, he’s been just amazing,” said Bargwanna.

“He has a lot of experience in the world of motor sport and he has a bit of experience form the super tourer days, so he’s got plenty of knowledge.”

Crick is a winner of the Australian Sports Sedan Series, Targa Tasmania and the Australian GT Championship, whilst holds an array of other motor sport accolades. It’s this experience Bargwanna can draw on as it provides a fresh outlook on set-up, driving style and other details.

“Working alongside him, he’s made this whole job so much better for me and he’s helped put me in the right direction,” Bargwanna explained.

“Cricky sees things in a different light, but he gets it and it’s good.

“Dad has taught me a lot, but it’s always good to get a different perspective on things, especially from a such a knowledgeable person as Greg Crick. And we have a lot of fun doing it, which is the main thing.”

Bargwanna is content with 11th in the standings for what is also the Peugeot’s maiden season in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, however a top 10 finish is the end goal.

But with just 100-points to Luke King in second, the third-generation driver can climb further up the points table.

“I’ve got a lot to learn this year, it seems to be consistency is my strong point, which is good to get on top of that rather early,” he said.

“But now I need to start working forwards and finding those extra tenths to be up the front.

“At the moment it’s where I want to be and I’m happy with where it is all going.”

The next round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be held at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland on August 13-15. CLICK HERE for ticketing information.
