TCM Fan Favourite: the final four

A month-long quest to find the fan’s favourite Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters car has reached the final stages, with just four cars remaining in the hunt.

A series of elimination contests on Facebook saw the top 16 cars in the championship – following the first three rounds of the 2021 series – cut down to just eight in the first round.

The 16 cars were matched up in a random draw with a series of posts on the official TCM Facebook page then allowing for fans to vote for their favourite each time out.

Those eight were then pitted head to head in the semi-finals, with the four that emerge to battle for a spot in the Grand Final contest.

More than 8,000 votes were cast in the first round, and another 3,600 cast in the Semi Finals to arrive at the final four.

In the first Semi Final, Tony Karanfilovski’s Boss Mustang edged out Andrew Fisher’s Jesus Racing Falcon GTHO 278 votes to 265 – just 13 votes the difference after 24 Hours of voting.

In round two, Steven Johnson’s hugely popular XD Falcon dominated Jamey Tilley’s Falcon Coupe 717 to 304 after more than 1,000 votes were cast.

The third Semi saw perhaps the biggest upset of the competition so far; five-time champion John Bowe’s Holden Torana SL/R 5000 knocked out by the Allan Moffat-replica Ford Mustang TransAm driven by Cameron Mason.

Again, more than 1,000 votes were cast with the Mustang winning, 650-417.

The fourth and final semi-final saw Marcus Zukanovic’s XD Falcon go head-to-head with the irrepressible Valiant Pacer steered by Cameron Tilley – the latter coming up trumps.

With the four cars remaining, a pair of Preliminary Finals will now decide who makes it to the Grand Final in the search for TCM’s favourite car.

Tony K’s Mustang will take on Steven Johnson’s Falcon in the first round, while a battle of the Cameron’s will see Tilley’s Pacer take on Mason’s Mustang in the second.

The two winners from those contests will then battle in the Grand Final to decide the winner!

Keep an eye on the TCM Facebook pages for the Preliminary Finals on Thursday and Friday this week, before the Grand Final on Monday, June 21.
