Michael Caruso excited ahead of ‘unknown’ Morgan Park

Michael Caruso, the newest race winner in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, is looking forward to the unknown challenge of Morgan Park Raceway next month.

After a difficult start to his 2021 TCR campaign that included incidents and other issues, the former Supercars race winner banked his first win in the series in that last race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

But unlike some of his rivals, the Valvoline GRM driver has never been to or seen Morgan Park Raceway, the fifth round of the turbo-charged touring car series on June 25-27.

Caruso says that the main focus for the ‘unknown’ weekend will be to get the most out of his car at the 2.9km track.

“I’ve never seen Morgan Park. I’ve heard of Warwick, because as you turn into Queensland Raceway, you see the traffic sign that says Warwick is over 100km up the road!” he joked.

“I’ve been fortunate that I’ve had to adapt to new tracks in Supercars all the time. Street tracks, international tracks, basically all of them at some point.

“I have no problems adapting to the circuit, but to get the right result, it will be about getting the most out of my car on that track. That’s the challenge.”

Caruso says that he expects the competition to be fierce at the front.

“If it’s like Winton, which a lot of people are saying, then it will be narrow, so I’d expect that the Hyundais and Hondas will be competitive. And you can never discount the Audis,” he said.

“It’s a small track, there’s hardly any straights of significant, so I’m not sure the Alfa will be the best suited, but you never know in this class. It is always really mixed. We are seeing new winners all the time and, hopefully, we can be somewhere near the front to offer a challenge.”

Caruso currently sits 13th in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.
