Chelsea Angelo confirms Volkswagen drive for Phillip Island
Chelsea Angelo will make a return to the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series grid at Phillip Island in two weeks time, driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI.
The 24-year-old Victorian will drive the #37 Golf, run by Melbourne Performance Centre with major backing from Astrontech, as well as a host of new backers that will be revealed next week.
It is the same Golf GTI that Aaron Cameron used to finish third in the inaugural TCR Australia Series in 2019.
At this stage, the deal is a one-off as she seeks to secure more funding to complete the season.
Angelo contested selected rounds of the 2019 TCR Australia Series, driving a Holden Astra TCR run by Kelly Racing. Her strongest run came in the final round of the series where she was running inside the top 10, only to be involved in an early incident that cost her a strong result.
The Phillip Island event is set to be one of the best weekends for on-track action on record, with S5000, Trans Am, GT World Challenge and the Australian Superbikes joining the TCR racing.

“It’s exciting to be back. It has been a long few weeks to get it all sorted, and there were times when I didn’t think it would be possible, but I’m pleased that it has all worked out,” said Angelo.
“I’m over the moon that I’ll be back in the car, so I can’t wait to be on the grid and be back in the Volkswagen.
“It’s cool to be the only VW in the field as well. It gives me a unique edge, but it’s a really strong field this year, so I’m being realistic and aiming for some top 10 results. Anything above that, I’d be over the moon.
“I haven’t raced for 12 months, and other than the test the other week, I haven’t had a lot of seat time, but I have no doubt that I’ll find my groove quickly.
“I’m fortunate to know the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit very well. I’ve done plenty of miles around there, and doing the test day recently was important and beneficial.
“At the moment, it’s just a one-off for Phillip Island, but we are aiming to get some great results and build on the momentum with our group of partners.”
