Audi Sport launches the 2021 RS 3 LMS for TCR competitions
Audi Sport has launched its all-new 2021 model RS 3 LMS racing car for global TCR competitions.
The car comprises a new transmission, upgraded aerodynamics and safety features and will replace the previous RS 3 LMS model that was launched in 2016 and has racked up many TCR Series wins and titles around the world.
Head of Audi Sport Customer Racing Chris Reinke praised the outgoing model and said that the new vehicle will be ready for mid-2021.
“That has been one of the best sellers of Audi Sport Customer Racing. 180 cars have been built and they won many TCR races and titles all over the world,” said Reinke.
“The 2021 model is now ready to undergo an intensive testing programme and hopefully it will be available for our customer teams in the second half of the year.”
Detlef Schmidt, Technical Project manager says that driver comfort and safety have been a key point in the design.
“In order to improve the aerodynamics we have optimised the air flow through the engine bay and to make set-up adjustments easier we have introduced a system of shims that helps to quickly change the camber,” he said.
“We have also worked to help the driver remain concentrated during the races, thanks to a new dashboard and a keypad for managing all the functions. Finally we have also improved safety inside the cockpit adding side protection nets and opening a trap-door on the roof.”
Audi Sport is represented in Australia by Melbourne Performance Centre who have three of the 2016-model RS 3s in its fleet. At Symmons Plains, the cars were driven by Chaz Mostert and Luke King, with the pair currently third and fourth in the title chase.
King is locked in for the 2021 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, while MPC is yet to confirm if Mostert will remain in the Bostik Audi for the remaining rounds of this year.
The next round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be at Phillip Island in two weeks time.
