SETON SURNAME RETURNS TO PAYNTER DIXON TOURING CAR MASTERS

THE SETON name will return to the Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters this year third-generation driver Aaron Seton to contest the remainder of the 2019 series aboard a Ford Mustang.

The 20-year-old son of double Australian Touring Car Champion Glenn and grandson of Bathurst winner Barry ‘Bo’ Seton will drive the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 owned by Leo Tobin with his debut coming at Winton in two weeks’ time.

Seton had originally planned to make his TCM debut in 2017 driving the earlier Mustang that Glenn raced to five victories in the category – however those plans changed when the car was sold.

Since then success in long distance racing at the Bathurst 12 Hour and in the TA2 TransAm series has continued to build his profile.

The relationship with ProSports class winner and long-time TCM supporter Leo Tobin has seen the pair join forces for the remainder of the year Seton to take over driving duties of Tobin’s stunning Orange Mustang.

The car will run the iconic Seton No. 30 this season.

“I’ve had support from Leo Tobin for some time and the opportunity came up to jump behind the wheel†Seton said.

“I look forward to developing my driving in a different sort of car. We’ve known Leo for the last few years and he has been very supportive of my racing and I can’t thank him enough for what he’s opened up for me to get behind the wheel of a TCM car.

“It’s a pretty special thing and I hope I can represent him well.â€Â

In joining the Touring Car Masters grid Seton will race against names – John Bowe and Steven Johnson – that his own father competed against at the peak of his own career.

“It’s exciting to race against guys that my dad raced against†Seton said.

“Dad is my hero so to race against the same guys is pretty special. To see what Steve’s been doing and ‘Bowie’ has always been at the front in TCM – racing with those two and others in the field is great.

“There’s lots of experience there to draw from and lots to learn from them.â€Â

Seton said he was looking forward to the challenge of making his TCM debut at Winton – one of the tightest circuits on the calendar.

“Winton is a very technical track and I’m looking forward to seeing what the car is like there. It’s going to be a very good challenge to overtake on but it rewards you when you get it right.

“This is all about getting as much seat time as I can. The car is somewhat similar to what I have been racing and I’m looking forward to seeing how the TCM Mustang handles when we go and test before the round.

“I’m going there to gain all the experience I can get in a different car – it doesn’t matter where we run I’m just looking forward to having fun learning and hopefully running somewhere near the front!â€Â

As well as Leo Tobin Seton acknowledged the support of Don Dimitriadis Mick Benton Steve Amon and Cheap Car Carrying for their support of his ongoing racing efforts.

The Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint will feature the third round of the 2019 Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters series including races seven eight and nine of the championship and the Dometic Trophy Race.

Qualifying and all four races will be live on FOX Sports 506 and Kayo Sports across the weekend.
