Chris Delfsma V8 Touring Cars Round Two Preview – Mallala Motorsport Park, South Australia, May 13-15

“I have my fingers toes you name it crossed for a trouble-free weekend he said earlier this week. “We were sixth fastest overall in those three races and if I can emulate that in qualifying we can be in position to give the front runners a run for their money. Maybe even get a podium spot!

The Hazelbrook realtor brought the last AU model V8 Supercar built and joined what is effectively the third tier of V8 Supercars mid-season last year and was certainly on-track to claim a podium place by the end of 2010 getting a fourth at Eastern Creek before losing an engine at the last round before he could improve on that.

This years opening race on April 2 seen the Century 21 AU storm up the field from 12th position to seventh. Then just as Delfsma was challenging for sixth the fuel pressure problem developed. He figured in another great start in race two. “I arrived at turn two to a bit of a concertina effect and unfortunately tapped into another car which sent both of us into a spin. The end result was running dead last half a lap behind.

“I was able to do a 60.8 second lap time which was faster than my qualifying best – and just half a second off the lap record for V8 Touring Cars he added. “The level of competition has taken a large step up – the top dozen cars being covered by less than a second in qualifying was amazing – unheard of last year.

My fastest time should have happened in qualifying on the brand new tyres – maybe even a few tenths quicker – and would have been inside the top five on the grid. But when youre starting mid-pack or worse its hard to get through he related. “So it is crucial really to qualify up front and get a good start. Thats the goal for the weekend and hopefully the results will come from there.
